On Thursday, June 10, Waterside School’s class of 2021 donned their caps and gowns for the School’s 16th graduation ceremony. In a most picturesque setting- along the shoreline at Stamford Yacht Club- families and faculty celebrated the graduates, who have endured a fifth grade year like no other.
Though certainty different from past graduations, this ceremony was as special and poignant as ever. In keeping with tradition, Mr. Edwards presented Jaden Coridon with Waterside’s most distinguished award, “The Kruger Cup,” which recognizes a graduate who embodies the School’s commitment to academic achievement and character development.
Fittingly, Mr. Chip Kruger, founder of Waterside School, gave the commencement address. He emphasized how proud he was of this class- how the students have modeled resilience, persistence and hope, even in the toughest of circumstances. In turn, the graduates took to the podium to express their gratitude for their time at Waterside, as well as their promise to carry on their daily commitment: “We will take the Waterside W with us to our next school…and give our fullest and finest effort to any task that comes our way. And we promise to never forget all those who helped us grow.”
This fall, Waterside’s class of 2020 will matriculate at the finest schools in the area, all with generous scholarships. Nevertheless, Waterside will always be their home, and it was clear from their remarks (watch the video) that they are grateful for the many opportunities they have received, and more importantly for the love and support they have felt throughout their journey.
